Boston Whale Watching Trip

England v Ghana, Boston

A so, so typical England World Cup group game… Felt like travelling to an away game as thousands queued for trains at 9am for the 45 minute ride to Foxborough Stadium.

Plenty of food and drink places around the shopping mall at the stadium though.

Brief Match Summary

England dominated possession (almost 79%) but struggled to break down a disciplined Ghana defence. The best chances came late on when substitute Nico O’Reilly headed against the crossbar and Harry Kane blazed the rebound over from close range. Ghana threatened on the counterattack but neither side could find a winner. The draw leaves England top of Group L on four points from two matches.

Key Moments

  • 86’ Kane misses the rebound from six yards.
  • Ghana’s defensive organisation frustrated England throughout.

Not the worst result, but certainly a frustrating night after the 4–2 win over Croatia. A draw against Panama on Saturday will still be enough to send England through to the Round of 32.

Boston – We’re on our way!

We finally get our trip underway with a direct flight from Heathrow to Boston. Great City, not the best weather, but we made the most of it… Freedom Trail, The View, Boat Trip, Cheers Bar and lot of history lessons from ChatGPT.

Match Day tomorrow!

England v Croatia, Dallas

England 4 – Croatia 2

Amazing stadium. A very hot day but roof on and Aircon! Shaky first half, twice getting the lead and being pulled back. A second half much better after a bollocking at half time it would seem… Kane luck to see his penalty allowed to be retaken for encroachment, their keeper had a blinder but two important saves from Pickford needed too.

Quick summary

England started their World Cup campaign with an entertaining 4–2 win over Croatia. Kane scored twice in the first half, but Croatia fought back on both occasions to make it 2–2 at the break through Baturina and Musa. England were much stronger after half-time, with Bellingham’s powerful solo goal restoring the lead before Rashford sealed the victory late on. The attack looked excellent, although Thomas Tuchel will have noted some defensive lapses after conceding twice.

Man of the Match: Harry Kane – two goals and an all-round captain’s performance, drawing level with Gary Lineker’s England World Cup goals record of 10.

England’s next match is against Ghana on 23 June in Kansas City. Croatia face Panama the same day.
