Due to higher risk of injury or the damage, theft or loss of your Sports Equipment, you should look at getting a comprehensive Winter Sports Travel Insurance policy.

Don't Forget Your EHIC Card (it does expire too!)

Of course you should always have comprehensive travel insurance as well, but don't forget your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC - the replacement for E111s) it covers limited necessary treatment but in particular it does NOT cover repatriation back to the UK.

Seasonnaire Insurance

Ski Seasonnaire Travel Insurance
A Ski Seasonnaire is a person who works a seasonal job at a Winter Sports Resort. These jobs can range from Ski Instructors and Shopkeepers in an equipment store to Bar Tenders in Après-Ski bars and Housekeepers in hotels. The perks of this kind of work include plenty of time to hit the slopes and sometimes free accommodation and meals as well.
Some employees may provide comprehensive insurance free of charge or belong to a discounted scheme.

Carré Neige Insurance with your lift pass

Carré Neige insurance is available with your lift pass and covers rescue and emergency medical costs plus refunds on lessons, ski pass etc. It is not a substitute for full travel insurance though that may cover things like lost baggage, ski equipment theft, delays, airline or operator company failure and repatriation back to the UK.
Carré Neige is €2.90 per day for Adults or €23.20 for 8 to 21 days (2020 Prices).
“Carré Neige Season” Insurance for Ski Season Pass Holders is also available for €35. Note this is now electronic on your lift pass and no policy or card is issued.

One final thing - everyone is duty bound to assist in the French Mountains when someone is in need of help and ski patrollers / pisteurs do not leave people if they have no insurance or credit card - this is an Urban Myth. But big rescue bills and medical expenses costs can follow if you don't have adequate cover.
