La Tania does football – The England Tournament Blog

How many years of hurt?

The #EnglandAway Tournament Blog documenting our travels and misery watch the England National Football Team away from the ski season. The Ski Blog is at www.latania.co.uk/blog and there's more football stuff at La Tania does football...

England v Wales – a much better 2nd half

The negative Maguire to Stones to Pickford repeat story finally ended in the second half with Rashford and Foden finally getting on the front foot and then joined by Grealish and Wilson later on we actually showed some attacking strength.

A 3-0 win, top the group, 9 goals scored and onwards and upwards…. What were we worried about?

Everyone speculating about an England v France quarter final but Senegal will be no pushovers in our opinion – well organised and big, strong, powerful athletes.

England v USA and first impressions of Doha

Always going to be a different World Cup and being based in one city meant lots of football and lots of fans all in one place.

Some hotel bars were jumping but the fan areas generally very quiet – especially through the day.

Match report to follow? Desperate, negative stuff from England after the 6-2 win v Iran. Tournament football though and we’ve probably done enough.

Onward….

Qatar 2022 – Accommodation Differences

We were lucky enough to have a few days on the brand new MSC Europa (aka HMS WAG) moored up in Doha. A $1b ship 333m long and 47m wide capable of 7,000 passengers and 2,000 crew. Using energy cells and LNG too!

Meanwhile the “Clusters” for £35 a night – very basic but clean, free Wifi and air con. A little city on the desert really – holding thousands of football fans with shops, cafes and a football pitch still competitive at 2am!

Qatar 2022 and a clash with the start of the Ski Season!

Bluetooth activated tickets once again

So a Winter World Cup, lots of controversy and a very different event with nearly all the fans staying in the same city. As usual the press predict a disaster (like South Africa, Brazil and Russia) but as we get nearer accommodation and flights are becoming easier to obtain (and cheaper), entry rules are being relaxed, fan parks will serve alcohol after all, public transport is free for the whole tournament (Metro running every 3 minutes at peak times until 3am) and the legendary Dubai Friday Brunch/Drunch is a thing in Doha too…

We’re sure the La Tania crew will have a great time whatever the football is like (as usual)!

And yes, of course we’re staying on this ship!
