Weather getting colder? GFS models showing good chance of cold spell

After the fresh powder of Saturdays opening of Courchevel, Sunday saw
temperatures rise dramatically and rain at resort level was pretty
depressing – however this will help compress a lot of the snow and
help establish the base especially as it looks like we’re in for some
real prolonged colder weather coming in towards the end of the week.
The snow cannons should be in full operation 24/7 down to resort
levels to really get that base established on the lower runs.

When all the lines agree the forecast models agree and the forecasts
are more likely to be correct. The red line is a 30 year average
temperature with the grey one a consolodation of all the lines.
Precipitation is forecast across the bottom of the chart.

First Tracks on La Tania’s Red Run

First tracks on the red run Moretta Blanche. Ferg – Ski Deep

S3V Lifts Confirmed for opening on Saturday – Courchevel to Val Thorens Possible

Looks like main lifts only – No Chenus for a first (unoffical) run down to La Tania or even Biollay which usually opens. Seems Meribel Alpina aren’t bothering until 12 Dec (bus access to Mottaret for those in Meribel) so should be some very empty, although officially closed, pistes down there. Could all change of course – due to start snowing again in 3 hours time.

From S3V Lift Company – The ski areas of Courchevel and Mottaret (the upper part of the Meribel Valley) are partially opening from 5th of December 2009.
From Courchevel 1850 – opening of the gondolas Jardin Alpin, Verdons and the Saulire Cable car (1850/2700 m).
From Mottaret – opening of the Pas du Lac and Plattieres gondolas and the Plan des Mains and Cote Brune chairlifts.
The 3 Vallees connections are also opening the 5 Dec 2009 between Courchevel 1850/Meribel-Mottaret/Les Menuires/Val Thorens.
La Tania and the other resorts of Courchevel (Le Praz, Courchevel 1550, Courchevel 1650) will be connected to Courchevel 1850 from 12 Dec 2009.
