Val Thorens Opening Day - Thursday 24 November 2011
Stunning pic from Joey of Nick Ski on Thursday's Val Thorens opening day. Only Peclet and Cascades areas open plus the beginners covered travelator lifts - amazing use of snow cannons while we wait for some more of the real stuff, hopefully towards the end of next week (IT HAPPENED BIG TIME!)
With millions of Euros invested in snow making, dedicated reservoirs that are linked together and miles of pipe work (all at altitude and it doesn't freeze up), there's no need to wait for the real stuff, although looking reasonable for some snow later next week. Note that the Three Valleys snow making system does not use any additives - just pressure and water - and is powered from eco-friendly hydro electricity.
