Escapaders in a Day - The Ski Powers - Hamish and James
A full day - and an extra couple of lifts in Les Menuires...
14 February 2008
Thanks to Hamish for the pics and words:
"James (Ski Power guide) and I set off to follow the Old School route (roughly) and were going well until I stupidly lost James at CP7 and skied past the bottom of the Granges Chairlift. That’s what happens when you ski with the official fastest skier in La Tania (137kph)! I had to go all the way down to the Roc de 3 Marches 1 and 2 before I could get back and get my card stamped. We didn’t meet up again till the Pointe de La Masse…crowds in VT and a slow run home meant more delays, meaning a total time of 7hours 50mins.
I know we could have gone faster! Using satellite tracking from the brilliant www.mountaintrak.com the readouts show James hit a max of 120.3kph. Not so speedy for me, but with my ‘unforced error’ I did ski 84.52 kms with a vertical of 45,259 ft. Is this a record? (trying to salvage something from the day…).
Unbelievable respect for the new record, I can’t imagine how it is physically possible. We’ll be back!"
