Avalanche Update

News of a fatality in Courchevel area

20th February 2005

Excellent Piste Skiing with every lift and every piste in the Courchevel Valley officially open (except for the short Belges run that drops between Vizelle and Saulire). Staying cold and keeping the snow in great condition - more snow forecast this weekend to keep things freshened up.

Avalanche risk is now at 3 out of 5 (still a considerable risk) and news of a fatality in the Courchevel area - a 14 year old French boy caught in an avalanche off-piste in the Rocher de L'ombre bowl (that's over from the Lac Bleu toward Saulire - the area over the back of Plumbers or the Butchers run to locals).

If venturing off-piste - take care, know your limits, go one at a time through marginal areas, be properly equipped and ski/ride with someone with local knowledge and experience (and go hard).
