End of season
snow report
Fri 26 April 2003. The
Final report of the season (apart from some updates on the glacier
situation over in Tignes). Overall the best season for 4 years
- big snow depths high up and some decent dumps at the beginning
of January, February and towards the end of March kept us going
(with a few lighter falls in between). Great to see routes to
Brides and Bozel open as well as the long La Tania drag opening
once again (we heard it never would 'cos of the increased speed
& capacity of the gondola). The snow cannons created a base
on the Folyeres resort run that lasted right until the end of
the season in La Tania, with the Troika beginners lift closing
on the final day - well done to the piste basher lads! The final
day in La Tania saw circuits of Gazex
until the lifts closed - well done to those involved, see you
all next season... Previous reports
And
some more final words from 2002/3...
La Tania is now closed until
the Summer
when we re-open for July and August for a host of summer
activities from Mountain Biking (all downhill 'cos
you go up on the ski lifts) to fishing! The Tignes glacier is
now closed for a month until it re-opens for summer skiing through
'til September (20km of runs and up to 16 lifts will open). Well
done to Sophie, Mike, Gazza etc on completing the BASI instructor
course up there last week. The Saisonnaires Poll Results are now
here.
So another season over, lots of stories to be told and memories
to last a lifetime. The snow was certainly the best for 4 years
and Saisonnaires surpassed themselves with their drunken antics
and hard core skiing & boarding (to those who tackled Plumbers,
Gazex 3, the 4th Couloir and Croix du Verdon, I salute you).
Finally finally,
some words of wisdom
"The only trouble about going to New Zealand
in the summer again is you end up doing not just back to back
Winters but Winter, Winter, Winter - 'cos you're bound to be coming
back out here aren't you?"
Thanks Mr Shilton, who came out for a first weeks skiing holiday in December 99, has hardly been home since and won this seasons Best Skier in La Tania Award.
It's been a blast - thanks to everyone for a great season, 'til the Summer, Go Hard... Toffa.
