What’s New For Winter 2027 In La Tania
The 26th edition of the What’s New Guide is here. We’ve been keeping track of new lifts, pistes, buildings, bars and all the other things that matter in La Tania and the Three Valleys since 2001. The big investments, the little improvements, the local gossip and, occasionally, a new table in the pub. You’ll find the previous editions in our What’s New archive
For winter 2026/27 we’re splitting the guide into four: La Tania, Courchevel, the Méribel Valley and the Belleville Valley including Val Thorens and Orelle. First up is home: La Tania. There’s plenty to report, with new gondola cabins, the arrival of Bârma, work on our home pistes and village paths, new places to eat and one very sad farewell.
Before we get into it, here are the essentials for planning the season:
- All the 3 Valleys 2027 Piste Maps
- The first 2 weeks of the season Courchevel lift opening schedule
- 2027 Lift Pass Prices and Resort Dates
- Piste Maps – What’s Changed?

New La Tania gondola cabins: proper seats at last!
After more than three decades of those familiar cabins and their rather less familiar definition of a seat, the La Tania gondola has had its big summer makeover. All 52 cabins are being replaced, with eight seats in each, wider doors and much better views. Skis and snowboards come inside with you.
The new cabins photographed arriving in the village are Sigma Diamond cabins. Their plate shows a maximum of 10 people or 800kg: eight seated and two standing. That’s the licensed maximum, rather than ten seats. Anyone who has spent years leaning against an old perch should notice the difference straight away.
There is more to the project than the shiny new bubbles. S3V’s €5 million investment, excluding tax, includes mechanical and electrical modernisation and station alterations to improve boarding and maintenance. POMA is carrying out the work, retaining existing infrastructure where appropriate. The aim is to extend the installation’s life by 25 years and cope better with the extra demand from Bârma.
Our summer cabin photographs show the new arrivals and the work in progress. The lift follows the existing route: this is a major refurbishment of La Tania’s main way up the mountain.
Fancy an old cabin for the garden?
The old La Tania cabins haven’t simply disappeared into a skip. They went to Taninges Télécabines, the specialist reseller near Les Gets that restores and adapts old lift cabins for gardens, bars, restaurants, chalets and other imaginative uses.
When we tracked them down in September, the asking price was around €3,000 plus tax, without delivery. At roughly 2m by 2m by 2.7m and 450kg, this is not something you’ll be squeezing into the back of the car. One has already made it home to La Tania. See our old-cabin story and buying details; current availability and prices need checking with the seller.
Bârma: Moretta Village becomes a place to stay
After years of rumours, plans, amendments, development applications, excavation, cranes and the changing view from the gondola queue, the development on the old gondola car park has a name and a winter opening: Bârma Hôtel, Résidence & Spa. The former Moretta Village project is set to welcome guests in December 2026.
The Courchevel press kit lists 51 rooms and 24 suites in the hotel, plus 70 apartments in the residence. It is a four-star, ski-in, ski-out addition at the foot of the Moretta piste, with a Susanne Kaufmann spa, indoor pool, fitness facilities, children’s space and concierge services.
For La Tania this is a significant change to the lower end of the village. It brings a substantial number of new guests, but also facilities that could give visitors and locals another reason to spend time by the piste.
A restaurant, a terrace bar and a lounge bar
Bârma also brings La Table de Bârma, a restaurant built around seasonal produce, sharing dishes and its take on Alpine and Savoyard favourites. We’ll be interested to see how it settles into La Tania’s eating-out scene.
Outside, the south-facing terrace has its own central bar overlooking the Moretta piste, with seating and space for an après-ski drink. Inside there is a separate lounge bar, with cocktails, comfortable chairs and a fireside setting. So that’s a restaurant, a terrace bar and a lounge bar to add to the village list. More on opening arrangements and menus as the season approaches.
Folyères: new snowmaking pipework
There has been work beneath the surface of our home blue run as well as above it. The snow-cannon pipework down Folyères has been renewed with modern plastic piping. It may not make the holiday brochure cover, but maintaining the snowmaking network is important for a heavily used home run into the village.
Folyères gets a little less lumpy
Sections of Folyères have been reprofiled to improve drainage, reduce erosion and make some of the steeper sections a little gentler for beginners. The most noticeable change for regulars is the removal of the biggest roller after the flat section beyond the cross-country track crossing. Yes, that one.
The intention is a smoother, more manageable way down, particularly for skiers still building their confidence. We’ll see how the reshaped sections ski once the snow is down; Folyères remains a blue piste, with all the usual need to match your speed to the conditions and the people around you.
Moretta Blanche: the temporary road is gone
Further reprofiling of the red Moretta Blanche piste is complete, and the temporary chalet access road has been dug up and removed. The strip of ground that had been doing duty as a road is back to being part of the piste.
That restores the ski connection from the bottom of the red run, beside the new Bârma residence, back towards the La Tania gondola. After the diversions and construction arrangements of recent winters, it will be good to have this part of the return route functioning as a piste again.
A new picnic and rest platform at Chenus
A new 300m² wooden terrace near the top of the Chenus gondola. It sits outside the indoor picnic room and looks towards the Saulire, with seating and a dedicated relaxation area for skiers and pedestrians.
The gondola and indoor picnic room opened last winter; it’s the outdoor platform that is new for 2026/27. A useful spot for a sandwich, a pause in the sunshine or a regroup before the next run.
Road repairs finished up to the Saboia turn-off
The road repairs from the La Tania roundabout to the Saboia turn-off are complete. Regular drivers will know exactly which stretch we mean. Combined with the work around the lower village, it is a welcome improvement to the approach to the chalet area.
New village footpaths and steps by Kalinka
The village is getting some attention at walking pace too. The footpath from the deli towards the swimming pool and ski-school meeting point has been upgraded and extended, with further improvements around the centre. There are also new steps near Kalinka next to Saveurs des Alpes (La Tania’s Deli aka Peter Beardsley’s).
We reported the first stages in our October footpath update, along with the new ramp access to the car park near Sherpa. These are the small, useful changes that make a difference when you’re walking around the village with children, shopping or ski equipment.
A new footpath to Bârma and the car park
There is now a footpath alongside the road towards Bârma and the car park, improving the pedestrian connection to that end of La Tania. With the new residence about to welcome its first full winter of guests, a proper walking route is a useful addition.
Chalet building work on the Saboia road is complete
The renovation work at the chalets on the road up towards Saboia is also finished. Another construction site off the list, and a tidier approach to the upper chalet area as the village gets ready for winter.
Le 1440: A fresh start for Le Montana’s restaurant
Le 1440 is the updated restaurant at Hôtel Le Montana, with a new name and a relaunch aimed at bringing more non-resident diners through the doors. Ambra and Téodore’s team are keen to remind everyone that you don’t have to be staying in the hotel to eat there.
Le Montana’s website currently gives 11 December as the restaurant opening date. The hotel itself opens on 4 December, with breakfast only during the first week. Another option for an evening out without leaving La Tania.
The Six Collection: three high-end La Tania chalets
The family behind Le Montana has also launched The Six Collection, a chalet collection from Téodore and Ambra Borne. Its three La Tania properties are Chalet de Mon Grand-Père, Chalet Les Pléiades and Chalet Manora.
The advertised capacities are up to 15, 14 and 12 guests respectively. Facilities vary between the properties, from outdoor jacuzzis and a cinema room to a sauna, with catering options and personal service part of the offering. These are additions to the accommodation choice under a new collection – The Six Collection
Thirty years of Ski Magic
There’s a big local birthday this winter: Ski Magic turns 30. Its first La Tania guests arrived in December 1996, and Clare and John White are celebrating three decades of catered chalet holidays in 2026/2027.
They have added two chalets to the collection for the anniversary winter: Chalet Caroline for 8–10 guests and Chalet Yeti for 12–13.
Alongside the longstanding local teams at Ski Higher (30 years last season), The Freeride Republic (20 years last season) and Snow Retreat (15 years last season), it’s good to see independent businesses continuing to look after La Tania’s returning visitors.
Congratulations, Clare, John and the team. Our Ski Magic anniversary story has more.
La Taiga: The end of an era
And now the sad one. La Taiga is no more as the restaurant and bar we knew. Following its sale in September, the building looks set to be used as staff accommodation this winter. It’s a real loss to La Tania after more than 20 years of great food, cocktails and live music.
Who can forget those Bring Your Sisters Sunday nights? Dinner upstairs somehow became a drink downstairs, one drink became several, the band got going and the early night disappeared. Then there were Freddie’s piano sessions, the singalongs, the opening and closing parties, and all those evenings that were only supposed to be a quiet catch-up.
For holidaymakers it was a favourite night out; for seasonnaires and locals it was part of the rhythm of winter. Plenty of friendships and a fair few terrible dance moves were made there. A huge thank you to everyone who cooked, poured, played, sang and kept the place going over the years. La Tania will be poorer without it.
The Ski Lodge: a new stage, a new kitchen… and Table 2
Across the village, the Ski Lodge has a new covered stage on the terrace, ready for more live music and après-ski, plus a new kitchen behind the scenes. Good news for the bands, the kitchen team and everyone ordering lunch before the music starts.
And in what may be the most closely followed furniture development in the Three Valleys, we hear there’s a new round table for Table 2. If you know, you know.
La Tania’s published lift season runs from 5 December 2026 to 11 April 2027. Early-season openings are phased and subject to conditions, so use the schedule linked at the top. That’s the La Tania update for now. More as opening day approaches. Get yourselves out here!
