Fresh snow, cold weather, winter returns

First lift, first down Jockeys and first down Jean Blanc with Nick & Joey from NickSki. Less wind lower down and snow less wind blown/packed. Lower down in 1650 the snow is better than higher up. Visibility coming and going, still light snow coming down at noon.

Top Powder Morning in La Tania

Last night La Tania snow cannons were blasting away despite snow over night showing their commitment to ensuring great snow for the whole season. First gondola with Toffa and a cracking ski down Jockeys (see photo) then Jean Blanc followed by a trip to the top of Saulire where it was sunny but very cold. There were 4 people at the gondola at 08:50 this morning and 15cm of fresh to play in. Nick www.nickskithreevalleys.co.uk

Off Piste Avalanche Risk rising to 3/5 (Considerable) across 3V

The Off Piste Avalanche Risk is 3 out of 5 locally at over around 2,300m and set to rise to that at all levels as the warmer weather continues. Still looking like returning to much colder weather next week – Spring not quite springing with Winter not giving up just yet.

Note that 3/5 risk is CONSIDERABLE risk – not an “average”, “medium” or “marked” risk (French use the word “marque”).

Weather – starting to look like a return to much colder weather again next week

So strong Southerly Foen Winds hitting the Alps at the moment and temperatures have risen dramatically. Overnight lows of -10°C a few days ago contrasting with a high of +18°C yesterday with it only just reaching zero last night at resort level. The warmer wet weather should see snow just above resort level for the next few days but some rain to higher levels at the weekend. Then it may just be all change and back to really cold temperatures and the chance of snow to all levels. Still a way out but models are starting to agree that cold weather will return after this southerly storm moves away. Only one thing is sure. It’s Weather… Various forecasting models includedt here, with temperatures on the top scale and amount of precipitation on the bottom.
