Little World Festival Schedule – Big Free Piste Gig on Sunday 13 March

LITTLE WORLD FESTIVAL (13th to 18th March) We might still be in the depths of winter, but already the 2011 festival season is looming. And the starter’s gun has officially been fired with the announcement of the line-up for the second Little World Festival to be held in Meribel, France (13-18 March). No wonder savvy music lovers across Europe are licking their lips in anticipation.

As one of France’s most popular ski resorts, Meribel has some of Europe’s best skiing and has long enjoyed a rep as an Alpine party stronghold. Some even claim that toffee vodka, that staple of the apres-ski session, was invented here one fateful, moonlit night. It’s a combustible mix that makes the resort the perfect location for the Little World Festival.

This year’s line-up of French and English artists manages to blend the cutting edge with the nostalgic in trademark style. Rising star Ben Howard, touted as the UK’s Jack Johnson and expected to be one of the breakout stars of 2011, will play a hotly anticipated set, with Michael Jones, Squeeze, The Feeling, Sophie Ellis Bextor, Freemasons, Carl Barat and Ed Harcourt rounding out the bill. There will be 30 separate events in total, with everything from small bar gigs to two completely free concerts on the piste to keep skiers and gig-goers entertained. Throw in five days skiing and snowboarding in the largest ski area in the world, and you have the perfect way to combine skiing and music, and mark the beginning of the 2011 festival season in sun-kissed style. Light that touchpaper, and stand well back….Get your tickets and package deals on http://www.littleworldfestival.com/ Wristbands allowing access to all events during the week, as well as individual event wristbands, can also be purchased in Meribel resort at the following venues: Meribel Office de Tourisme Doron Pub Taverne Rond Point des piste Dicks Tea Bar Le Loft night club

Video Snow Report and Piste Conditions Update Fri 11 Feb

New video report showing snow conditions will be up later today.

Surprisingly good piste skiing still available despite the lack of fresh snow over the last few weeks. Green and blue runs down to the resort still have decent cover with temperatures in resort out of the sun barely rising above freezing due to inversion systems and the pisteurs have been doing a great job maintaining the whole ski area. Good news is that most forecast models are in agreement that new snow will be coming through on Sunday/Monday! More later today….

Friday sees the open lunchtime competition at The Moon Park in Méribel, The Legendary Rob Smart playing 70s tunes at Roc La Tania (top of the Col de la Loze) from 3pm, Les Trois Tetes at Aprés at The Ski Lodge, Bring Your Sisters at Hotel St Louis in 1850 and another chance to see Les Trois Tetes at La Taiga from 10pm or The Cheerleaders at LdV – have a Funday Friday… followed by another 6 nations weekend…

After The Telegraph, The Daily Mail rant on Instructor Wars…

“A leading Paris national newspaper today (well a couple of days ago…) today singled out ‘The English ski instructor’ as the latest threat to French jobs for French people. In a hugely provocative article, Liberation likens the unpopular character to handymen who have flooded the west following EU expansion”. http://bit.ly/gval4b
