Snow report

Last Update: 5 Feb 2001

The snow Gods were right - along with us of course. It's dumping now and has been most of the day. So far 3 inches in resort and at least 7 inches high up. The runs down to Meribel tonight were full on. Things are looking great out here - Sod off those trendy management motivation crap.

Latest news & snow report

Great skiing today - blue skies and sunshine first thing but very cold (so the snow was in excellent shape). Skiing is now first class on piste but still a few icy patches on the runs back to resort at the end of the day. Had a fantastic blast down to St Martin de Belleville with a great lunch at Brewskis (and I didn't have the chicken curry pie). Snow cannons have been on all day at Meribel improving the runs into resort and 1 of La Tania's 2 snow cannons has been moved to improve the resort run - I was one of the first down a pisted Folyeres this morning and it was superb but on the way back at the end of the day the bottom section was very icy. OK if you straight line it! Clouded over now - snow is on the way...

News and stuff:

The Mountain Centre is open at last - backpacker type accommodation right inside the Three Valleys. The injury list is growing amongst the locals, Dan (ligaments), Jenny (wrist), Essex Billy (fingers), Shorty (knee), Billy Manson (knee) and barmaid Tracy had a fantastic fall down the black Combe Tougnette in Meribel today. Thanks to the Scandies who picked up her skis, poles, hat and goggles which were strewn up the hill - apart from a bang on the head she's OK - now are you gonna buy a helmet and get into Free Riding/Riders? This year's La Tania Chalet fire happened on Wednesday - no one hurt but there's not much left of it. The Panoramic restaurant at the top of Saulire has burnt down too. Dicks in Meribel has nearly recovered after Tim's birthday bash ended up there on Tuesday night - the usual carnage. SuperFly rocked the Ski Lodge Thursday night - they keep getting better. Shibboleth have no George for a couple of weeks - he's off to Las Vegas playing with Bjorn Again, the Abba tribute band - and a new drummer replacing Bodo temporarily - they're still rocking the place though. The Chateau on the Albertville to Moutiers road is under new management, still good but not quite THE place anymore. Brewskis in St Martin de Belleville are doing special Wednesday meals for locals (lunch and evening) - 50F with a glass of wine - rumours of a gondola next season and a new beginners area at a mid station are rife down there - we'll miss that slow old 3 man chair. Magic in Motion (certainly a better reputation than other ski schools we could mention) has a new site with on-line booking. They have a base in La Tania and plenty of English instructors. Don't forget to contribute to the Guest Book and we've also put a Chat Room up for TC. Check out the new photos of his bar. Keep updated on the snow conditions via the Snow Flash update service and check out the Webcam. As always any comments or contributions are always welcome. The Locals 2001 Page will be on line soon and this years prices, bus timetables, ski guides etc coming soon in a La Tania - The Quick Guide page. However if the skiing's good I'll be out there not in here..... Toffa

This week / Diary round up:

Toss the Boss returned last Tuesday for Tim's (the boss) birthday at Pub Le Ski Lodge - heads or tails to see if you get your drink free!!! Shibboleth are playing every Tuesday night this season - a tremendous version of "Sex Bomb", "I Believe In Miracles" and Toploader's "Dancing in the Moonlight" in their new(ish) set. Kangaroo Boxing (or pillow fighting) takes place on Monday nights with Simon from Ultimate Events. SuperFly are playing gigs every Thursday at the Ski Lodge - a new young band who belt out "Sex Machine", "Take On Me", "Walk Like An Egyptian" and some classic Stones and Rock "n" Roll numbers. Photos from the New Year party and the Natives@La Tania bash are now up. March 7th is the date lined up for the TMC / Natives race day. La Tania lifts are scheduled to close on April 22nd this year. We'll stick up the full Shibboleth, Foruplay, SuperFly and Firefox 5 gig lists when they're confiremed.

More new stuff and unsubstantiated gossip:

Essex Billy's broke his fingers and has finally returned fro Chamberry hospital. Sharples has a new trick called a Rodeo 720 Tracy grab and Nick is back behind the bar for Wednesday club. The "No water for the La Tania snow cannons" story was true - (or is it really rare frogs in the lake?!?!) and we really do need them this season. Check out the story at: http://www.natives.co.uk/news/2001/0101/04latcan.htm Lowri & Pete returned briefly for a pint before running their chalet in Val - which is still not finished. Ali Slaughter & Zoe have been spotted in Tignes - scared of the La Tania mob are you girls? Kelly and FFS posse returned from Val & Tignes but couldn't find TC's Bar - are they crap or what? They however have returned and did find it. It's in Le Lavachet. Maybe the other Billy (back thanks to a helpful driver who picks up hitch hikers) went to the other Moutiers in the West of France. Coach surfing has now been made an official sport on route back to La Tania - Thanks to Copie, Billy, Sue et al. This season's lift prices are much the same with a 6 day Three Valleys pass at 1160F (but check that exchange rate out!). Ramps instead of stairs seems to be the new thing on the Gondola stations and 2 new chairs - an 8 seater from the Altiport in Meribel and a 6 seater above it replacing the Burgin drag have certainly eased congestion down there.

New business ventures include: The Mountain Centre (a new backpackers in the snow) with rates from £17 a night is due to open on 26 January & Snow Safaris run by Billy "mad Kiwi boarder" Manson & his wife Sarah are offering top ski & snowboard adventure holidays combined with fine cuisine and wine - check out their web sites. Also, there's a new transfer company 3 Vallee Transfers who will be able to sort out your airport transfers to Courchevel, Meribel & La Tania. Check out other businesses on the Accommodation Page
