La Tania Residents’ Meeting: Village Improvements, Moretta Blanche Snowmaking and Future Development Plans

La Tania residents, workers and business owners met representatives of the Mairie de Courchevel on Wednesday 4 November 2026 for an update on village improvements, skiing access and future development. The public meeting also gave residents the opportunity to raise questions about snowmaking, transport, summer activities and lift passes. Here are the main points, starting with La Tania itself.

La Tania village centre: lighting, paths and accessibility

The Mairie outlined a series of improvements to the resort centre, including the restoration of lighting in the pedestrian area, repairs to surface-water drainage and replacement trees at the Combout car park. Landscaping is planned outside the new Bârma development.

A better accessible route between the swimming pool and the village centre is now complete and it was also reported during the discussion that uneven surfaces in the centre would be addressed to make access easier for people with reduced mobility.

Other planned works include a wooden footbridge towards the Moretta Blanche piste and a new pedestrian connection between Combout and the S3V lift. A sound system for the ski school’s slalom stadium was also listed.

Moretta Blanche: snow cannons and ski-in/ski-out access

In response to questions from participants, it was reported that additional snowmaking on the Moretta Blanche piste is planned for next year. Concerns were also raised about the steepness of the ski frontage near the new development. A temporary change to the slope layout may be introduced this winter, with further work next year intended to make the approach gentler and improve ski-out and return access for nearby chalets.

These details were discussed at the meeting but are not set out in the photographed presentation slides, so the precise design and timetable remain to be confirmed.

La Tania Tourist Office: seven-day seasonal opening

The Mairie announced plans for the La Tania and Le Praz Tourist Office receptions to share arrangements with the ESF, following a model already used in Courchevel Village. The aim is to provide seven-day opening during the season with improved public reception hours. The tourism animation service is also due to move under the Mairie’s Sports and Events department at the end of April.

Summer activities, fireworks and questions from residents

Participants asked for a stronger summer programme rather than simply extending office opening hours. Suggestions included a zipline, treetop adventure activities and a padel court in La Tania. These were requests, not announced projects.

On the winter events programme, it was reported that the fireworks would follow a similar format to last year, with an ESF-assisted torchlit descent followed by fireworks.

A question was also raised about a bus connection to Méribel. The Mayor reportedly pointed to the substantial sums already spent on transport, and no new Méribel link was announced. Residents also asked for the lower-priced Courchevel Mini-Pass to include the Chenus lift; this would allow a return to La Tania from Courchevel with the mini-pass (Plantrey would do that to) but certainly won’t be happening for this season.

Bârma: proposed childminding centre

Separately, the Mairie’s published development update confirms that a Maison d’Assistantes Maternelles (MAM), or childminding centre, is being studied for the Bârma building at the entrance to La Tania on the Praz–Juget road. The proposal is still at feasibility stage and depends on completion of the residence. The estimated construction cost is €462k with an overall project estimate of €682k. Project-management tendering and studies were scheduled for Autumn 2026 but no opening date has been confirmed.

Formier: longer-term parking and accommodation proposals

The Mairie presentation identified the Formier area of La Tania as a communal housing project under study. It was reported during the meeting that a possible longer-term scheme could combine a multi-storey car park with tourist and seasonal accommodation above, potentially around 2031. Resurfacing of the existing parking area was also mentioned as a possible short term improvement in the near future.

The detailed scheme, dates and funding have not been formally confirmed in the slides, so this remains a proposal rather than an approved development.

Elsewhere in Courchevel: major projects

Bozel–Saint-Bon–Courchevel Village gondola

The proposed automated valley gondola would link Bozel, Saint-Bon and Courchevel Village, with three stations, 54 ten-person cabins and an announced capacity of 2,000 passengers per hour. The estimate is €50 million. Further studies and environmental procedures are scheduled through 2027–28, with construction provisionally starting in 2028. No opening date has been given but this is expected to be in time for the 2030 Olympics with an Olympic Village scheduled around the bottom station.

Aquamotion sports hall and Padel

Two padel courts have already been relocated from Saint-Bon to the Aquamotion area and have been available since summer 2026, with bookings managed by Aquamotion. A proposed sports hall, for which a winning design has been selected, would include a bouldering wall, two tennis courts, two padel courts, two pickleball courts, changing rooms and refreshments.

Forum medical centre, Courchevel 1850

The Forum is set for a major renovation and a new 2,680 m² healthcare centre accommodating doctors, physiotherapists, nurses and dentists, together with 32 underground parking spaces. The total estimated operation is €23.5m with delivery currently forecast between September 2028 and spring 2029. A separate proposed bus station on Rue des Tovets is also being studied.

Other housing and local improvements

Across the commune, projects include seasonal accommodation in the former Le Praz library, possible new housing near the Le Praz Fromagerie, and seasonal and permanent housing above the Aquamotion parking area (without reducing its parking capacity). In Courchevel Village, accommodation beside the cheese dairy is scheduled for renovation. A new family orienteering trail has also opened at La Rosière in Moriond.

The municipality is continuing to roll out electric-vehicle charging points at eight sites: Champétel, Buisson, La Perrière, Fontanil, Saint-Bon, Nouvaz, Freney and Jairaz. It has also fitted water-saving equipment in 30 municipal buildings. The meeting also covered increased municipal police resources, CCTV and defibrillator provision.
