Provisional Lift & Piste Openings for 17 December Week & World Cup is ON

The provisional lift and piste openings for week beginning the 17 December have been released by S3V for the Courchevel and La Tania ski area.

An incredible amount of work by the snow cannons and Pisteurs in managing the snow considering the current dry spell since the early November snow. An amazing 28 lifts with 48 pistes open in Courchevel and La Tania with 172 pistes open across the whole of the 3 Valleys. A record for anywhere in The Alps.

So Col de Loze opens with Dou des Lanches, Lanches and the Bouc Blanc pistes open. The Chanrossa area opens too but Le Praz and 1650 require lift access up and down at present. Interestingly Suisses lift is marked as opening but not Suisses piste – even though Marmottes & Park City are opening. Suisses looked ok yesterday…

The snow making in the Courchevel and La Tania area has now passed the 1 million cubic metre mark – with an estimated costs of €2.5m. That lift pass suddenly seems quite good value doesn’t it? There will also be some free activities on the ski area announced next week on the run up to Christmas.

Courchevel FIS Ladies World Cup Event Tue 20 Dec 2016 gets Green Light
The FIS have confirmed the event will go ahead as planned. The world’s best will be competing at The Emile Allais Stade in Courchevel including Tessa WORLEY (FRA, leading the Giant Slalom), Mikaela Shiffrin (USA, leading the overall standings) and Lara Gut (SUI, Winner 2016).

Spectators are informed that access along the World Cup track is reserved for technical teams (in view of the snow) and are strongly encouraged to stay in the finish area where free activities, show aerobatics, freebies, food stands, photo booths, DJ and Live Music will take place.

After the event, the snow produced for the World Cup will be moved to other parts of the ski area!

The local municipalities have all been helping move snow around for the event.
