A difficult day on the roads caused lifts to open late & this car went over the edge…
A tanker blocked the road near St Bon this morning causing difficulties for lift operator staff to get to La Tania this morning and this car went over the edge on the track just behind the Ski Lodge. No injuries and only the door dinted!
Late opening of La Tania lifts today
Just in case anyone was wondering why the gondola was about 20 minutes late opening today it was because the road was blocked at St Bon by a tanker and some of the buses with the lift operators couldn’t get up the hill in time. The 4 man chair was delayed for avalanche safety as expected and the 6 man chair was delayed due to late arrival of operators. Fabulous day and more to come. Nick www.nickskithreevalleys.co.uk

Nick Ski Snow Report Sunday 12th January 2014
Above about 1700m the snow is average or better than average for the time of year ie plenty of good quality snow eg The Grand Couloir is officially open and often doesn’t open until the end of January although it’s of course quite bumped up! Our guests have skied Mt Vallon, Masse, Cote Brun, Courchevel etc today and have big smiles on their faces “awesome” to quote (46.8miles, about 8840m decent = Everest). The home runs back to resorts are relying on snow cannoned snow so have plenty of cover to get you home. Beautiful blue skies today. I’d say that the truth is that the skiing is fabulous but if you’d been down M ( Courchevel black) last thing, not groomed for over a week, you might not have enjoyed the bumps although others do! Down to Les Allues, Brides Les Bains or Bozel itinerary runs (snow permitting).
Lose an afternoon on a sunny terrace.
Night Skiing on Verdons on a Wednesday night.
Fun parks and boarder/snow cross tracks.
Drink Veuve or do the buffet at The Courcheneige.
Après.
Take a lesson – no matter what standard of skier you are.
Go Heli-Skiing (they’ll fly you to Italy ‘cos it’s banned in France).
Try an alternative like cross country, snow boarding, skiing, telemarking or snow shoeing.
Wine tasting and cheese sampling at the Cave des Lyon in Le Praz.

Have a blow out Mountain Restaurant Lunch.
Have a very private mountain picnic.

Use the Ski Bus Service to get to and from different resorts (and a night to sample the night life).
Ski Lodge Cocktail.
Enjoy rotisserie roast chicken, take away pizza or Kirsty’s home made Lasagne or even the Giant Tartiflette and plan one early night (then go out at 11pm anyway).
Drink.
Do the speed test over in 1650 over and over until you beat 50km/h but still stop in the zone.
Do a shopping / lunch trip to Annecy and marvel at that lake.
Make sure you try green, blue & red runs back to La Tania – and nail them (plus the black Lanches above too).
Catch a European Football night at Lyon, Turin or maybe Milan.
Lunch at 1650, La Boulotte and Katie’s Big Baps plus endless “entertainment”.
Eat
Vin Chaud before last run down at The Bouc Blanc (or use the bus and try Le Peupliers version in Le Praz).
Watch a major TV sporting event like the 6 Nations in The Ski Lodge and get involved in their drink promotions – celebrate or commiserate with Jagar Bombs.

Also Weather to Ski voted us 4th in Weather-Proof Ski Resorts. We may be relatively low but those shadowy North facing slopes and all that forest makes a massive difference to keeping snow and allowing decent bad weather skiing conditions – the La Tania gondola hardly ever closes due to wind. It has been last non-surface lift open in the whole Courchevel Valley before.
Plus we’ve stacks of cannons and our own snow making reservoir anyway – As we always say ASPECT > ALTITUDE when it comes to keeping snow… And all in the largest Ski Area in the World!
