Update on snow and lifts, unbelievable to think of the snow this time last year

This photo was taken on Easter Monday 2010 and we had another good dump of snow on 17 April last year too – a very different end of season this year however. Such a shame that the unusually hot April combined with poor end of season snow happens to coincide with the latest Easter ever (well until 2038 anyway).

Today, the Gondola and Dou des Lanches chairs are open. Col de la Loze, Top of Bouc blanc, Crêtes and Arolles pistes also open above La Tania.

The hot and sunny weather (which has broken today, with an overcast, cloudy day and temperatures set to drop tomorrow) has led to further deterioration of the snow cover. Despite S3V’s best efforts we hear that the gondola is planning to close this Friday as it becomes impossible to keep the link with 1850 open. This will mean using the bus to Le Praz or 1850 to access the ski area.

In reality it will be the main runs off Saulire and Biollay that will remain open, including the beginners area underneath the Altiport and the link down to Meribel and Mottaret (although below mid-station conditions are poor in the afternoon especially).

A few skied over to the 4th Valley yesterday and first thing the runs over weren’t too bad, not surprisingly it was fairly busy in Val Thorens – they took the direct route via Mottaret, Plattieres 1 & 2 followed by Cote Brun over to VT. The journey back was poor though and perhaps they should have downloaded in to Mottaret from the mid-station.

Strangely enough temperatures are set to drop with the chance of some snow down to resort level on Thursday or Friday – although this will firm the snow up with a good freeze overnight it may not turn out to be very significant.

Probably time to spend a bit more time enjoying the sun, the wine, the food and the music..

S3V announce further lift pass discounts, now 40% off in whole Courchevel Valley

Message from S3V announcing further discounts – now 40% off in all Courchevel Valley….

A bientôt
