Final Day of the Season, still plenty of snow… But here comes The Summer

April 26, the Final day of the Winter 2013/2014 season and still plenty of snow around – in fact more forecast high up this weekend.

Val Thorens kicks on until 5 May and then there’ll be fun in Tignes until mid May before the re-opening of the glacier for Summer skiing from mid June through July and August.

Folyeres resort run and the beginner Troika lift still have plenty of snow cover – in fact the track on the right hand side of Troika only finally broke up yesterday. That’s the longest that’s ever survived in the history of La Tania I reckon.

No doubt Nick Ski will have his excellent analysis of the snow fall throughout this Winter up shortly. It certainly has been exceptional, not record depths apparently but for quality, consistency and low down conditions it must be one of the best ever.

Remember we’re open for the whole of July & August for masses of Summer activities and season passes are valid in Summer for lift access for hikers & bikers. We hear the La Tania gondola will be open 6 days a week and free this Summer too.

It really is beautiful in the Summer here, get yourself out here as someone once said….

La Tania reunion as always at The London Ski Show (Sat 02 Nov at Earls Court 2) plus no doubt, the meets in London, Robbie, Zante, Antibes, Capbreton, V Festival, Sydney etc……

So after 600 Tweets on Twitter, 300 Facebook Posts, 200 Blog Entries, over 1500 photographs and an incredible 35 Video Snow Reports plus 300,000 pages served on the web site – it really is time for Summer…

To all the La Tania locals, workers and visitors plus our loyal web site readers, the 2,500 of you who read our Facebook nonsense and the 2,000 Twitter followers – Cheers!

Time for Rosé, not Jäger…

La Tania 5 – 0 Meribel FC

TEAM

After last years 10 – 0 thrashing by La Tania, this year Meribel turned out a mostly French and much improved side but were again well beaten and this time on St George’s Day…

Dare i say it probably player for player the better team. But La Tania’s committment and organisation won out easily on the day.

Great performance by all. Special mention to man of the match Duncan Rose who kept a clean sheet in goal and also hat trick hero Russell Waddell.

Well done to all involved and also thanks to stand in ref Scotty who you could tell had worked in Meribel a bit this season by some of his decisions.

Thanks to Manager, Captain & Coach, Mini for the match report and Joc for the pics.

Only 3 of us in the first gondola, felt like billionaires having Folyeres to ourselves then the red run then Jean Blanc. Photo of Nick on Jean Blanc enjoying tonnes of powder again (check out the blog 23rd Feb 2013, this is 2 months later!) What a superb day, back home for a quick bite to eat and to again to play. Snow snow snow… Winter Retuns

The snow is early this year… welcome to Winter 2014! Just as last year, a great end of season powder day for those left in resort… go hard!

Snowing. Again. Bouc Blanc Terrace turning white, snow/rain level falling…

Could still be another powder day left in this season yet. Temperatures falling tonight so we could wake up to a white La Tania tomorrow morning.

Chanrossa Avalanche Pic. Off Piste Risk remains 4/5 HIGH

More evidence of the instability of the snow pack now warmer temperatures are starting to hit. Huge slides on Saulire, Chanrossa and the Creux area are visible and a massive one on the Meribel side too. Many of these are controlled and have been set off by the Pisteurs when the areas are closed off however to maintain piste safety.

Always obey closed piste signs (and road closures too) they are there for a reason. Local off piste avalanche risk in the Courchevel Valley remains at 4 out of 5 (HIGH) in all areas with 85% of pistes remaining open in mid April – must be some kind of record.

Temperatures set to peak at 25°C at resort level next week but there’s a chance of snow on Friday night! Honest.

Avalanche Risk High Off Piste – Large Slide on Creux and Saulire Overnight

photo2

Avalanche risk 4 out of 5 (HIGH). To get to Creux you have to go via Meribel! Big slide around Saulire reported overnight – may have been Pisteurs controlling it of course. 104 out of 111 pistes remain open in the Courchevel Valley.
