The Black Grouse Protection Areas Off Piste

I just wanted to ask everyone to adhere to the Black Grouse protection areas. There is one under the Dou de Launches chair in La Tania and many people are cutting into the area. The Black Grouse are gorgeous birds and if you love wildlife and the mountains please respect these conservation areas which are not large and aren’t spoiling your off-piste. A genuine thanks to the guys I told off today for coming back onto the piste :)),

I don’t think you realised nor saw the signs however the ski instructor I saw there the other day should certainly know better! Here’s some more info:

  1. Hi Nick, Totally agree with your stance on Black grouse conservation area, but have a question. Does the new dou de lanche area prevent cutting left and reaching folyeres like we used to, or can you go to the left of the new area and still reach the piste if coverage is suitable?

  2. Hi Richard, I guess cutting in right under the end of the roped off area means you end up in the area where the grouse like to hide in the trees that they are trying to protect. Nick has certainly been in much much higher up and gone along well above the roped off area then through the trees left of the area and back onto Folyeres, just make sure it's safe and all that. If you look at it from the lift its really quite a small area which is what they need apparently for a bit of peace and quiet! Actually its not an area we'd normally ski as like you said it would be much further left. I think the poor chaps who got a telling off from me today where just following other tracks and seeing what it was like just off the edge of the piste of the last bit down to the lift. Nice looking bird isn't it!! :))
