Col de l’Iseran being cleared of 10m of snow – 3km still to go…

title

Le Dauphin is reporting up to 10 metres of snow being dug out near the top of the Col de l’Iseran which was expected to open for this weekend – no definitive date has been given for the Summer opening but possibly by next Wednesday 19 June according to Engineers. There is still significant avalanche danger in the area with a large cornice causing concerns and 3km still to be cleared with an average snow depth of 7 metres.

Col de l’Iseran is the highest paved mountain pass in The Alps rising to height of 2,770m (9,088 feet) situated to the South of Val-d’Isère and Tignes ski resorts. That’s a similar height to the Saulire link between Courchevel and Meribel.
