Nick Ski Snow Report Monday 27th January 2014

After a good snowfall overnight there is about 30cm fresh snow at the top. As we were going up the gondola this morning blue sky started to appear and we skied in sunshine for most of the morning. Jockeys pisted, good but would have been better with just the fresh powder! All upper lifts delayed opening due to avalanche blasting. The piste skiing is perfect now. The off-piste is getting a better coverage so less chance of hitting a rock however 2 of our pals have been extremely lucky this week when skiing off piste as their weight caused slopes to crack and they had a narrow escape. No doubt this was due to the “weak layer” collapsing – See Henry’s Avalanche Talk article

Perfect January conditions. Have fun and be careful. Nick www.nickskithreevalleys.co.uk

Nick Ski – Just to add something more about this photo; the dangerous avalanche zones above this pitch have been blasted by the pisteurs and I decided it was safe to ski between the debris.
