Surely the last report on the 3 Valleys Escapade in a Day for the 2022 Season – and sorry we were a bit late in getting this on-line! Thanks to Katy for the info. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Conditions were great considering we thought it wss going to rain, we actually got blue skies all day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The only major hiccup was the closure of the run between Les Menuires and Plan de l’eau meaning we had to go all the way to the top and ski down into Val Thorens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bumped into Kate Middleton and Princess Charlotte on Roc Mugner, making us temporarily consider ditching the escapade to ski near them but we came to our senses and made it down to For\u00eat with roughly an hour to spare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What\u2019s this all about?<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

The 3 Valleys Escapade was the lift company promotion of visiting (originally in 2006) 14 points across the Three Valleys and gaining a certificate & badge over the period of your holiday \u2013 then we had the idea of doing it in a day\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s probably the toughest day skiing ever for a recreational skier but lots of people have got involved over the years so we feature them in our Escapade in a Day Hall of Fame<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is no longer being promoted by The 3 Valleys but we\u2019ll still stick you in the Hall of Fame if you complete it \u2013 send a Ski Tracks or similar trace in plus a pic of your group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What started out as a late night \u201cis it possible?\u201d discussion became a challenge the following week \u2013 the history and our original route are here<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Originally punch cards had to be stamped at each check point until electronic passes arrived \u2013 they could then be checked by the lift company. The original Escapade was 30 lifts, 13000m vertical and 70km and 2016 peaked with 34 lifts, 17000m vertical (twice the height of Everest) and around 100km total distance. It became a little less for 2017 and 2018 saw the use of the Roc de Tougne<\/em> fast new chair instead of the drag plus we lost the Montaulever<\/em> drag altogether. In 2019 we gained the new faster Legends<\/em> chair out of M\u00e9ribel and then an improvement in speed on the Mont Vallon<\/em> lift too. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s certainly getting easier with the improvement in lift infrastructure and we should make it harder for 2023 \u2013 there\u2019s now the new Pointe de La Masse<\/em> and Orelle-Caron<\/em> Gondolas too! However, it\u2019s still a big, big day out with every run top to bottom and all the planning, chatting, moaning (and lunch) kept for the time on the lifts\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n
