Skiing with the Veterans – Free Lift Passes for the over 75s

20140331-215544.jpg

It should be everyone’s ambition to ski for free one day… Make sure you do.

Great to see these two ladies here in The Ski Lodge last week. They flew in from Manchester to Chambery on Jet2, hired a car and then were straight down to the lift pass office to pick up their 3 Valleys Season Passes for free.

Free passes used to be for over 70s, then it moved to over 72 and now it’s for over 75s. Pretty cool that it has VETERAN stamped across it!

Avalanche Transceivers – Where To Hire In Courchevel

Meant to post this a while back but it could still be useful for anyone doing some late season touring – and this is always a dangerous time of year as the snow pack starts to warm up.

3+ green

Thanks to La Tania Ski Bum Auntie Mary for the research here…

These hire prices were in Courchevel 1850 in February 2014 – Let us know of other places and their prices and we’ll add to it. As can be seen there’s quite a variation.

25 Euros a day at Skiset.

19 Euros a day at Jean Blanc Sport (but provide your own LR AAA batteries, which cost 6 Euros for 4).

15 Euros a day for a transceiver complete with batteries at Camp de Base in the Forum.

Very Sad News – Ex La Tania Saisonnaire Lisa Morgan née Metcalf RIP

Heard some very sad news today that Lisa Morgan lost her battle with cancer a couple of days ago.
She went peacefully surrounded by her family and will be sorely missed by many. Lisa was 29 years old.

Lisa worked in The Ski Lodge from around 2005 to 2007 and I believe met her husband Matt in La Tania. She went on to live in Brighton and work for Neilson Holidays and married Matt last Summer followed by an amazing honeymoon in Thailand.

Lisa was one of those people who never stopped smiling and never stopped enjoying life to the full. She’ll be remembered by many here in La Tania – our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Matt, her Family and Friends.

Here’s a pic of Lisa from the La Tania “Locals” page back in 2006/7 Season.

Powder on Jean Blanc

Quick snap of Nick on the un-groomed edge of Jean Blanc. The piste was groomed and a super early run with about 5-10cm of fresh powder on the groomed base however deeper powder where it wasn’t groomed. Blue sky appearing now so higher lifts might open soon although may still be windy up top – wrap up well. Nick www.nickskithreevalleys.co.uk

Brilliant Family Ski Marketing – paying school fines!

20140314-171255.jpg

Front page of today’s Times – the most brilliant marketing from MountainBase – they will pay your fines for taking kids out of school to go skiing.

In the Midlands it’s a £110 penalty to let your child experience a new sport, get fit & active promoting a healthy lifestyle and become involved in a new foreign language, food & culture.

And the fine is still cheaper than paying half term prices anyway…. Encouraging people to break the law? Post elsewhere please….
