*** La Tania Locals – Snow Report Update ***

Posted on Sat 28 Feb 2009 at 12:42pm

Warmer… Bit snow later in the week?
After superb skiing on Thursday and first thing Friday the temperature has shot up and there's a sudden spring feel everywhere today. Looks like being fairly warm with spring like conditions for the next day or so but colder, more unsettled weather looks like it's heading over from mid-week. I bow to the Video Snow Report guru later though…

Gasex fall and lucky escape for La Tania local…

Posted on Fri 27 Feb 2009 at 11:45am

La Tania local Ian E was kept in hospital under observation for 48 hours and scanned for internal injuries but released after Doctors said he was unhurt. We hear that he dropped over the rocky/cliff section near the Lanches Chair, some 20m drop – his skis are still up there despite Kip trying to get them. Long Tom witnessed the whole thing, photos expected soon. Ian now back in the Hotel Montana, manager Simon has upgraded him to a bed from a bunk while he recovers…

Fantastic skiing on and off piste and only one lift queue today

Where were you? Nick, Joey, Jamie, Jenna and Andrea made the 3rd bubble out of La Tania this morning.
Here’s Nick on Lac du Lou and Jenna on Mont Vallon.

Pistes in perfect shape

Posted on Thu 26 Feb 2009 at 12:06pm

Every run open in the Three Valleys except possibly the black Jean Blanc – haven’t been up there to check. Even Villages over in Meribel down to Les Allues is still fine. Great skiing continues and the number of kids around should drop significantly next week (and almost be eliminated the week after!). Another belter of a day today, deep blue skies and lunch on an outdoor terrace today I think…

Golden Pappadam award

Posted on Mon 23 Feb 2009 at 4:39pm

Following the success of ‘ Slumdog Millionaire ‘  winning 8 Oscars our very own Slumdog , Sanjhi , has been awarded the Indian restaurants equivalent …The prestigious ‘ Golden Pappadam award ‘ for services to Indian Cuisine .
Being the only Indian delivery service in the Three Valley’s they are quietly confident of winning the award next year as well

So well done to Sanjhi , Loldip , nadita and Beckita for flying the La Tania Flag . Who needs Michelin Stars….

A little bit of new snow

Posted on Sun 22 Feb 2009 at 2:59pm

Wet snow down at resort level and an unbelievable change after the sun of yesterday. Video forecast was right again.

Those who got out first thing enjoyed some clean lines although fairly poor visibility higher up. Should be plenty of more sun around for the rest of the week though and piste conditions remain excellent.

How to make a 3V holiday cheap…

Posted on Wed 18 Feb 2009 at 5:41pm

From Snowheads. (They could always save on the eating and drinking too……)

Just booked: Sat 14th to Sat 21st March
4 Flights RyanAir East Midlands to Grenoble (7.50 return inc tax – a loss leader surely the tax is more than that) = £30
4 bags and check-in charge = £114 grrrr! – that’s how they pay the tax…
No card charge with Visa Electron and a free lift to the airport.
Apartment for 4 in La Tania for £400 all in. Free car parking.
Car Hire = £153 – We’ll gamble on the need for no chains as usual unless forecast is bad (good).
Fuel = £45
Tolls = £20
Food kitty – visit to Champion in Moutiers en route = £300

So the basics work out at £266 each.

And trying to be realistic….
4 x Ski Hire / Lift Pass £1150 (got boots) – suppose this could be classified as a basic really.
Happy Hour drinks in the ski lodge 5 pints / 6 nights a week at 3 Euros a pint (researched this bit) = £360
Say 2 (decent) evening meals out and extra drinking say £75 each/night = £600
and 2 lunches out (sarnies the other days) say £20 each/lunch = £160

And the extras = £568 each.

Snow Coming Down Now

Meribel Live Feeling Gig Cancelled

Posted on Tue 17 Feb 2009 at 5:03pm

Just heard that The Feeling won’t be playing the Meribel Live gigs that were announced a few weeks ago. Sophie (Ellis-Bextor) and Rich’s premature baby plus a few other “last minute” issues have led to a postponement – so fingers crossed for next season. A real shame ‘cos it was such a blast last year.

Avalanche Safety Gear Mandatory in Italy

Posted on Tue 17 Feb 2009 at 2:20pm

Italy has decided to make avalanche safety gear (avalanche beacon, shovel and probe) mandatory for all winter sports enthusiasts heading out of marked and secured ski runs. The law will also apply to off piste skiers.

From the excellent off piste skiing site Pistehors.com – more here

Can’t see it happening in France – although we have seen the Pisteurs checking transceivers at the top of the Chanrossa chair before people head off piste this season, not sure if they actually stopped you if you weren’t properly equipped though.
